Here is a video of what my classroom is beginning to look like. Most of the desks have gone. I decided I didn't want any student to have a tray in the desk, as I didn't want anyone to be able to claim a desk as "theirs". I had to do some problem solving with where the students would keep their exercise books, pencil cases etc. I am hoping my solution will work. A classroom always feels good before the students hit, once they are there it becomes quite different. So it will be interesting to see how we all fare in this new layout!!
So my classroom is almost set, now I need to get my planning ready to begin the Daily Five. Here is a short video to show some of my changes, forgive the rather inane commentary. I need to work on that.
Any suggestions you may have will be welcomed and listened to.

Thanks for the tour of your classroom. It is always hard to imagine what it will be like once the children move in. Have you seen the Belkin rockstar splitters that you can plug into the headphone socket to have five headsets attached to a player at once?

ReplyDeleteYes I do have splitters, but need to find them. however not the 5 splitters one, that would be useful, I must find out if we have them in NZ.

Thanks for a sneak peak into your classroom! I love the number of computers you have! It's amazing to hear that you actually were a student in the same room. When do you start?
ReplyDeleteTheresa we go back Monday 1st August. Was just a 2week break. Yes I did all my primary schooling at this school. We used to live just across the road from it. A long story!

Great start to setting up your classroom spaces. You can get splitters from Dick Smith or Harvey Normans, the Belkins are good as they are a 5 splitter. Looking forward to seeing how your class develops!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get your headphones from? I have the splitters but I am struggling to make my money stretch to get enough headphones for them!
ReplyDeleteI am jealous of how many computers you have too!
How are the children going with not having tote trays? I bought little tubs from The Warehouse and the books are all stored together in subjects. I have another tub for their pencil cases. I have younger children but it has worked really well. It is especially handy for marking because I can take the whole tub home!
Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteMy suggestion is to ask the children to bring their own headphones. I did bring a couple of my own, ans school provided a few. Now I say to students bring in your own. Next year I am going to put it on thir book list, An idea I picked up from another teacher. Only need to bethe. bud in your ear ones if they have own.
Yesstoring their gear was amission! I had to be creatice, with the bookshelves around the room. It is the least satisfactory aspect of the change. However the chilfren are coping fairly well. Few lost glue sticks etc!
