Second in Trilogy
Goodread's Summary
One choice can transform you--or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves--and herself--while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.
This was a reread for me. I had listened to the audio version, but decided I really needed to read it as well to follow it and prepare myself for the third one later in the year. I enjoyed reading it, and once I got started I didn't take long. I found myself grappling with - Who is that now? I was somewhat relieved to hear one of my students say she thought she would have to go back to the first book in a trilogy she is reading because she can't remember all the bits and pieces as she moves into reading the third. I thought it was old age creeping in! There is a buzz in my class about this trilogy and someone said they heard a movie is possibly being made?
Coming up I plan to read the second book in The Rosie Black Chronicles - Equinox by Lara Morgan. Thankfully the third in this trilogy is published so it won't be too long before I read the third, and I only read the first a few weeks ago!
I definitely have the same problem with forgetting certain plot points and characters if there's time between the books in a series. And I simply don't have time to reread it, no matter how good it was.
ReplyDeleteI read Divergent and Delirium over a year ago and haven't picked up any of the sequels yet, so I suspect I will have to take your student's advice if I choose to read them. I think your smart - wait until they're all out before you start. Maybe we need a warning sticker on the cover if it's the first in a series. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time picking up the thread of the story if it has been a while since I read the first one too.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of Veronica Roth's novels as yet - perhaps I'd wait until the entire series is out before I begin reading this one. :) Have a great reading week!
ReplyDeleteI also feel like I need to go back and re-read the first two to get ready for the last installment! You might enjoy The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau. It's the first in a new trilogy that comes out in June. Readers who like the Hunger Games will enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
Will keep an eye out for this book Susan, thanks.
DeleteAck! I'm glad it's not just me. I always get confused by all the names and I feel like I'm always flipping back.
ReplyDeleteThe other option is to read as an ebook and then use Wikipedia :)
Ha, I have resorted to that when reading Percy Jackson novels!
DeleteI loved Divergent. I felt it was adrenaline-packed with a really interesting heroine and very believable future-society. But, with Insurgent I was kind of like...is this the ending? Maybe this is the ending...nope 100 more pages. She really spent some time spinning some complicated plot webs...must mean we'll be in for something big in book three.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, one of my students rated Insurgent 3 stars and just didn't like it as much as Divergent. Yes the end is big set up, so fingers crossed for a wonderful book 3.
DeleteI love Divergent, Insurgent was good but I didn't like it as much. I definitely want to see where the story goes next, though. I did see news and casting tweets about the movie. I love rereading. Last year in April, I took the month to reread and I think I'm going to do that again this year. I love revisiting books. Thanks for sharing!
